Today our crews videotaped the 2nd day of the Barth Syndrome Foundation conferences covering the Scientific/Medical and Family general sessions.

The Family Sessions were attended by affected individuals, parents and siblings as well as others that just had an interest in Barth syndrome. These sessions included presentations from doctors and scientists from around the world as well as discussion sessions on topics that are particularly relevant to individuals and families dealing with this rare genetic disorder.

The Scientific and Medical Sessions were attended by MDs, PhDs, MD-PhDs, and other professionals who gave presentations on Barth syndrome and who also discussed potential treatments for patients with the disorder.

Barth Syndrome is an underdiagnosed genetic metabolic disorder with varying degrees of cardiomyopathy, neutropenia, growth delay, and excessive fatigue.

We’ve covered the sessions this week with a package of Sony D35 cameras as well as Sony Z1 HDV cameras for interviews and website messages. We’ve used Sony and Panasonic switchers, as well as Arri lighting kits. Saturday the sessions will wrap up as we videotape the last day of Family sessions and cover the grand finale featuring the families attending this week.

Day 3 has come and gone as we prepare for Thursday and Friday’s Scientific/Medical and Family conferences. Today we conducted a second day of interviews with families and those affected afflicted with Barth Syndrome. We also got a chance to interview researchers and scientists that have come from around the world to further their studies and share findings on Barth Syndrome.

Today we also recorded clinic sessions as the Barth boys went through a number of tests that BSF doctors oversaw and recorded in their pursuit of data concerning this rare genetic disease. There are only 117 known cases around the world.

The opportunity to be part of this special week and produce the DVDs that will include the Thursday and Friday sessions as well as the interviews and clinics is truly an honor for Bright Circle.

It’s been a productive day here at the Belleaire Biltmore in Clearwater, Florida as we get ready for the Barth Syndrome Foundation Conference. We came down from Orlando with a UHaul van loaded to the max with cameras, tripods, switchers, scan converters, record decks, monitors, and lots of cables. We have two sessions Thursday and Friday that will part of a live meeting hosted by WebEx. Today was spent configuring the rooms and running tests with the WebEx team from Sacramento.

Tuesday we will begin to conduct interviews with family members, as well as doctors and researchers that are fighting in this battle against Barth Syndrome. We will also start to videotape an extensive series of clinic sessions where the Barth Boys will be examined through a number of exercises.

It’s truly an exciting task to be challenged with a project of such importance. Families, researchers and doctors converge upon this conference every two years from around the world to share information and make strides in their battle against this rare genetic disorder.
